How we do it
Concrete grinding done right
Grinding strips away old coatings, levels imperfections and opens the pores of the concrete so stains, epoxies and sealers actually bond. We grind basement, garage and patio floors across Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties.
What it does
Removes coatings, levels and profiles the slab

Why grind
Every great finish starts with prep
Coatings fail when they sit on top of dirty, smooth or sealed concrete. Diamond grinding takes the slab down to clean, open concrete so the next layer bonds into it instead of peeling within a year.
Grinding is also how we remove old paint, glue and failed epoxy. Here’s the honest list.
It’s a good fit if
- You’re planning a stain, coating or polish and want it to last.
- You have old carpet glue, paint or a peeling coating to remove.
- Your slab has high spots, trowel marks or minor unevenness.
The trade-offs
- It’s loud while it’s happening. Most jobs take [X hours–X days].
- Grinding can expose aggregate and old patches you didn’t know were there.
- It doesn’t fix structural cracks or heaving; those need repair first.
Where it works
Grinding around your home
Grinding is the first step for almost every finish we do. What changes is how deep we go.
Indoor
Basement floors
Removes carpet glue, paint and old sealers so the new finish bonds.

Garage floors
Strips failed coatings and oil-soaked concrete before a new garage system goes down.

Grinding, shot blasting or acid etching?
| Method | How it works | Result | When we use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond grinding | Rotating diamond tooling abrades the surface | Even, controllable profile; removes coatings | [Most jobs] |
| Shot blasting | Steel shot is thrown at the surface | Rougher profile, fast on large areas | [Confirm if offered] |
| Acid etching | Acid opens the surface chemically | Inconsistent; won’t remove coatings | [Not recommended] |

Free estimate
We look at the slab and what’s on it, and decide how deep the grind needs to go.
Set up
We protect walls and doorways and set up dust control [confirm equipment].
Grind
Diamond tooling removes coatings, glue and the top layer of the slab.
Repair
We fill cracks, pits and joints so the surface is ready for the finish.
Clean & inspect
We vacuum the slab and check the profile before the finish goes down.

FAQ
Concrete grinding questions
Why does concrete need to be ground before coating?
Because coatings need an open, clean surface to bond. Grinding removes contamination and gives the slab a profile the coating can grip.
Is concrete grinding dusty?
It can be, so we use dust-controlled grinders and vacuums [confirm equipment]. Most dust is captured as we work.
Can you remove carpet glue and paint?
Yes. Grinding removes glue, paint, thinset and most old coatings. Some glue shadows may stay in the concrete.
How much does concrete grinding cost?
Grinding usually runs [$X–$Y per square foot], depending on what we’re removing. It’s often included in the price of the finish.
